The National Alliance multidisciplinary Health Policy Strategy Committee  discusses and disseminates health policy observations, interventions and recommendations to encourage action on the part of coalitions and their employer/purchaser members.

The Health Policy Strategy Committee helps the National Alliance educate about emerging issues and strategize how best to act on them together. By building capacity within coalitions to engage more effectively in the policy arena, the employer community can serve as a catalyst for legislative action that results in better healthcare transparency, pricing and delivery at federal and state levels.

Path Forward Responds to the Final Parity Rule

The Path Forward, a coalition of health care purchasers, clinician associations, health systems, philanthropists, and health-related nonprofits, appreciates the Administration for its focus on ensuring improved access to quality mental health and substance use disorder care. While this rule may prove challenging for employers and health plans in the near term, it is the responsibility of all those impacted to come together to make behavioral health access a reality.

Employer Insights to Consolidated Appropriations Act Attestation

There is growing concern among employers that they could face litigation if they are not exercising their fiduciary responsibilities as required by the complex attestation requirements that took effect on January 1, 2024, as part of the Consolidated Appropriations Act (CAA). Following the National Alliance’s fiduciary webinar on this topic, the National Alliance wanted to better understand employer current practices and concerns related to compliance. This survey was conducted March-April 2024 and gauged concerns and views of employers around their perspectives and experiences with the CAA.

On Tuesday, April 16, at 10:15 a.m. (ET), the Subcommittee on Health, Employment, Labor, and Pensions, chaired by Rep. Bob Good (R-VA), will hold a hearing titled: “ERISA’s 50th Anniversary: the Path to Higher Quality, Lower Cost Health Care.” Offering testimony to the House Committee on Education & the Workforce on behalf of the National Alliance and representing employers will be Russell DuBose, vice president of human resources, Phifer Incorporated and chair of the Alabama Employer Health Consortium.

A Coalition of Allies for Affordable Drug Pricing

Led by the Purchaser Business Group on Health (PBGH), The Employers’ Prescription for Affordable Drugs (EmployersRx) is a coalition of PBGH, the National Alliance, The Erisa Industry Committee (ERIC), American Benefits Council, Silicon Valley Employers Forum, and HR Policy Association. EmployersRx supports policies that would require PBMs to make pricing data available to payers and compel drug companies to report and justify price increases for some medications. The coalition also seeks to strengthen competition and remove barriers that stifle the development and use of generic drugs and biosimilars.

Raising awareness of critical issues affecting the cost of healthcare

The Fair Health Costs Initiative is an Arnold Ventures-backed effort by the National Alliance and PBGH to mobilize employer purchasers, educate policymakers, and advocate for public policies to reduce healthcare prices.
