WASHINGTON – May 14, 2026 – The National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions (National Alliance) announced availability of new resources developed with funding from the Patient-Centered Outcomes Research Institute (PCORI) to help employers and other healthcare purchasers apply patient-centered outcomes research when designing oncology benefits.
The resources include a three-part audio interview series – featuring employer, patient advocacy, and clinical perspectives – along with a flipbook-style guide that translates patient-centered oncology research and employer-focused insights into practical actions for plan sponsors, HR leaders, coalition partners, and other stakeholders.
“Cancer care is among the most complex and costly categories in employer-sponsored coverage,” said Christina Summerville, senior director of Healthcare Advancement, National Alliance. “These resources are designed to help employers move from information to implementation, ask better questions, focus on patient-centered outcomes, and make more informed decisions.”
Three-part audio series
A set of interviews hosted by journalist Alex Olgin explore how employers can better navigate cancer care, including prevention and screening, benefit design, care navigation, evidence-based evaluation of oncology solutions, and emerging innovations such as precision oncology. Guests interviewed in the series:
- Shelley Fuld Nasso, CEO, Cancer Nation, highlights national survey results on cancer patients’ needs for employer flexibility, challenges with affordability and insurance coverage – plus why evidence-based cancer benefits matter.
- Cheryl Larson, president and CEO, Midwest Business Group on Health, discusses why employers should prioritize prevention and screening, rely on evidence-based care, and rethink how they pay for ultra-expensive therapies.
- Christa-Marie Singleton, MD, discusses how employers should rethink prior authorization, the importance of evaluating sites of care and relevant wrap around services for cancer patients.
Flipbook guide
The new flipbook is a practical guide that explains why oncology matters for employers, what patient-centered cancer care looks like, where evidence-based research can strengthen benefit design and workplace policies, and how to apply actionable strategies to improve support across every stage of the cancer care journey.
