Health affordability hearing testimony will highlight the need for actionable transparency, employer data access, and stronger accountability to lower healthcare costs for America’s working families
WASHINGTON – June 9, 2026 – Shawn Gremminger, MPP, president and CEO of the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions (National Alliance), will testify on Wednesday, June 10, before the U.S. House Committee on Energy and Commerce’s Subcommittee on Health at a hearing titled “Lowering Health Care Costs for All Americans: Examining Policies to Increase Health Care Transparency.”
Gremminger will provide the perspective of employers and other healthcare purchasers on the need for stronger price transparency policies in the commercial healthcare market, including policies that help plan sponsors access meaningful cost and quality information and better manage healthcare spending on behalf of workers and families.
“Employers and purchasers need a healthcare marketplace in which prices, quality, and contractual terms are transparent and usable,” said Shawn Gremminger, National Alliance president and CEO. “Without meaningful transparency, it is far too difficult for those who finance coverage to identify high-value care, hold market participants accountable, and make informed decisions that improve affordability for employees and their families.”
The hearing builds on the Committee’s health affordability series and will examine legislative proposals intended to increase healthcare price transparency and lower costs for patients and employers. Gremminger is scheduled to appear alongside other witnesses representing policy, research, consumer, and market stakeholder perspectives including Carol Skenes, chief of staff, Turquoise Health; Benedic Ippolito, PhD, senior fellow, American Enterprise Institute; Christopher Whaley, PhD, associate director of the Center for Advancing Health Policy through Research, associate professor of Health Services, Policy and Practice, Brown University School of Public Health; and Sophia Tripoli, MPH, senior director of Health Policy, Families USA.
