WASHINGTON – February 11, 2025 – In the past two decades, costs for employers offering healthcare coverage has more than doubled, while out-of-pocket expenses for employees is three times higher according to the Kaiser Family Foundation. To address these issues, the National Alliance of Healthcare Purchaser Coalitions, a non-profit who represents private and public sector, nonprofit, and union organizations that provide health benefits for more than 45 million Americans spending over $400 billion, submitted recommendations to the incoming Administration and 119th Congress.
“No sector of the economy has seen higher or longer-lasting inflation than the healthcare industry,” said Shawn Gremminger, National Alliance president and CEO. “A course correction is required to alleviate the crushing weight of an estimated $220 billion in medical debt owed by Americans. We urge the Administration and Congress to take action and provide real relief to America’s employers and working families that struggle every day to afford healthcare.”
Recommendations offered by the National Alliance and its members to the Administration as it develops its healthcare policy agenda include:
- Defend ERISA preemption
- Ensure data access and transparency
- Lower prescription drug prices through pharmacy benefit management industry reforms, ban anti-competitive practices by drug makers, and reform the 340B drug pricing program
- Re-establish competition in the hospital market through stopping anti-competitive health system mergers, enacting site neutral payment and banning anti-competitive contracts
- Accelerate value-based purchasing by eliminating misaligned incentives inherent in a fee-for-service system
2025 Health Policy Summit
These priorities will be included in the discussion at the 2025 Health Policy Summit on Thursday, March 6 at Georgetown Capitol Hill Campus.
